Customers to Creatives: Advancing professionally in game development

How does someone start out in customer service and work their way into a production role within six years? How can starting out in a customer-facing role be preparation for a job managing a development team? What strengths might not have otherwise been apparent?

The obstacles, both personal and professional, can present unexpected opportunities. Game development is often fluid, making adaptability one of the most important traits to ride the waves, which Reneé Wooten found to be a good fit to guide creative professionals through rough (and even calm) waters.

Reneé is an Associate Producer of MMO content at KingsIsle Entertainment, the creators of Wizard101. With a goal of creating products that drive learning and growth, she has drawn inspiration from her journey and the success of others. A native of Richmond, Virginia, Reneé came to Austin after completing a game design degree at Full Sail University (c/o 2012) and is now focused on encouragement and motivation to bring out the best products for players while maintaining high morale for development teams across multiple disciplines. Reneé constantly reflects on her work and takes everything as a learning opportunity, with the ultimate goal of becoming a Creative Director someday. Join us as Reneé shares a less "traditional" climb through the industry, and how she's just getting started.
